Taking a Course For Category A1
The course you take for category A1 is an important step to obtaining your license. It's not the only step. You must also pass a practical test.

The lessons in the practical sessions cover the theory and the practice of basic riding techniques. The duration of the course is a minimum of four hours. Students who want to pass the exam must have at least 9 hours of training with an instructor.
The practical lessons for the A1 category are divided into segments. The first section consists of an instruction in theory on the fundamental rules of driving. The next section is a hands-on instruction on the road, where the student practices the maneuvers which will be tested in the Mod 1 test. The final lesson will be an examination that lasts around 15 minutes. During the test the student is required to perform various maneuvers, either on Federal or Country roads. Students must also pass a written test in addition to the practical and theory lessons. This exam is comprised of 50 multiple-choice questions. The test must be passed with minimum 41 points. After completing the practical training, the student can take the Mod 1 test and obtain the permit to drive a motorbike in the category A1. This permit allows them to drive on public roads and carry a passenger. The Strassenverkehrsamt must issue the permit. The process varies from canton to canton, but it usually takes several days or weeks to get the permit.

Theory test
